We are the COMM419H class of 2019! This course is designed to be a comparative study of modern media systems of mass communications in selected foreign countries. We examine the historical, social, economic and cultural forces that influence the adoption of a national media system. We compare perspectives on the problems and issues in freedom of expression within national media systems and evaluate the organization, regulation and economics of those systems. And we analyze the national development of media systems and the impact of the mass media in the modernization on people.

During Spring Break of 2019 we are traveling to South Africa to get first-hand perspective on its media systems. From March 2nd to March 9th we will be traveling to various multimedia locations around the Johannesburg area. Click on each day of the trip to view our experience!
