Day 6 (3/7)

Today we went to see some of the various newspaper publications throughout Johannesburg. Our first visit was to Media 24, which owns the various newspapers, including the Daily Sun and Die Beeld. We first visited the Sun, where we got to sit in on an writers meeting and speak with the acting editor. Circumstances in Cape Town unfortunately made us unable to speak with Die Beeld, so we instead went to downtown Johannesburg to visit The Independent Newspaper Company. Here we got a tour of how the newspaper is printed and got to visit some of the publications owned by the Independent.

Because we had time afterwards, we stopped at Constitution Hill. This is where Nelson Mandela and many notable women were held prisoner. Here we got to see the “flame of democracy” and the Constitutional Court. And at night we went to Moyo’s Restaurant and Night Market, where we had our faces painted, watched live entertainment, and enjoyed great food.
