Use this entry to share your experiences and insights on the job search and application process. Remember that you are writing for an audience that is hungry for help and encouragement on this difficult road to employment.
Options for this entry include:
1. Share one or more online resources that you have found useful in learning more about your field or seeking a job (or internship…or graduate school).
2. Explore the PSU Career Services page entitled, “What Can I Do with This Major?” (notice that the page offers both a static page of information and links related to each major). Or explore another resource listed under “Explore Career Options.” Discuss what ideas this resource generated for you (in terms of your career strategic plan, what you can do now to make yourself an attractive candidate, or where you might look for a job).
3. Have you participated in any of Penn State’s Career Days? If so, tell some stories about what you did and learned there.
4. Tell a story about something particular that has happened to you during your job search, with the purpose of both engaging and educating your readers.
• Aim for about 500 words.
• Try to begin “writing for the web” by including such elements as smooth hyperlinks, images, short paragraphs (chunking), headings, etc.
• Make it personal, with examples and details! We want to hear about your own particular experiences.
• Employ techniques of strong writing (characters and actions; strong nouns and active verbs).
• We will comment on classmates’ entries in class on the due date.
