Education Impacts

Since 2012 I have served as a Visiting Professor with the Program in Risk Management and Emergency Response within the Central American School of Geology, Department of Seismology, Volcanology and Geophysical Research at the University of Costa Rica. At the University of Costa Rica I was hosted by Dr. Gabriela Marin Raventos, the Dean of Graduate Studies, Dr. Mauricio Mora Fernandez, the Coordinator for the National Seismology Network and the Chair of the School of Geology, Department of Seismology, Volcanology and Geophysical Research, and by Dr. Elena Badilla Coto, the Director of the Graduate Program in Risk Management and Emergency Response.

At the University of Costa Rica, with support of the Costa Rican National Emergency Commission, a new interdisciplinary Master’s degree has been created, which is focused on Risk Management and Emergency Response. This Master’s degree is the only one of its kind in Costa Rica and has the goal of producing a cadre of professional risk and emergency managers for the country. I taught a graduate course in this new interdisciplinary Master’s Program at the University of Costa Rica. The course was entitled “Information Technologies and Risk Management and Emergency Response.”
