Designed in 1970 by the “Capitol Campus Six,” a group of water resources students at the Capitol Campus, and made of concrete donated by Pennsy Supply, Inc. of Harrisburg, the Peace Symbol Monument originally stood behind the Olmsted Building. It is now located near the Engineering Technology Laboratory on campus. The monument, a student plea for peace during the Vietnam War, stands 85 inches high.
The Class of 1970 and Penn State President, Dr. Eric A. Walker, gifted the Capitol Campus’ first Nittany Lion Shrine (below), a miniature replica of the famous Heinz Warneke sculpture in State College. Located in the lobby of the Olmsted Building, its placard reads: “This statue memorializes the mountain lions which roamed the hills around Nittany Valley before the University was founded there in 1855. At Capitol it symbolizes the continuation of an honored tradition of the University and the young strength of the student body.”
