In 2012 a new addition was made to the Vartan Plaza.  The Penn State University Seal is now featured directly in front of the Olmsted Building.  The plaza is named for John Vartan, a 1973 graduate of the Capitol Campus, 1987 Alumni Fellow, and 2007 Alumni Society Lifetime Achievement Award recipient.  It was constructed at the heart of campus in the mid-2000s, and extends from the front of the Olmsted Building to the opposite end of campus.
