Sweet Life of Zack and Cody

Welcome back to another edition of “Bring the old Disney back.”  The third entry of this series will follow the iconic journey of “Sweet Life of Zack and Cody” starring Dylan Sprouse (Zack), Cole Sprouse (Cody), Brenda Song (London), and Phill Lewis (as mister Mosby). This show was a comedy that followed the lives of identical twins, Zack, and Cody, who were living at the Tipton Hotel with their mother. Also residing at the hotel was its owner, the rich and sometimes impolite London Tipon. Madeline, the down to earth sale person, and Mr. Moseby the dutiful anger were often the main protagonists throughout the series

One of the focuses of the show was to show how different the twins were, identical in looks, but completely different in nature. Zack was typically the unstudious, outgoing, immature twin, who usually dresses in skater clothes. While Cody was the calm, mature, and smarter twin. He was always a straight-A student, making him better, academically, than his brother Zack, who gets Ds.

The Suite Life of Zack & Cody aired from 2005 to 2008 and was considered the most successful Disney Channel premiere at the time. The special was viewed by more than 10.6 million viewers, a program of the night across both cable and broadcast television and ranks as one of the highest-rated episodes for a Disney Channel original series. The series was so successful that it was nominated for three Emmy awards and four Kid’s choice awards. Even after the series ended much of the cast went on to being household names within Hollywood. The show was so successful that when it ended, a spinoff called The Suite Life on Deck was created and starred the same cast.

One of the most memorable scenes from The Suite Life of Zack and Cody follows Mr. Moseby and London on a driving lesson. Before they leave the parking lot, the two have issues working out the basic mechanics of mirrors, seatbelts, and gearshifts, London calling it the “PRNDL.”Years later, that joke has lasted the test of time, being remembered as one of the show’s best moments. The Suite Life on Deck does not have a scene or episode that had such an impression.

Another one of my favorite lines from the show was when Mr. Mosby asked the twins “How do you lose a woman?” and Cody responded ” By forgetting how to cherish her”

And even though many of us only watched this show for laughter and the ridiculous skits, looking back I realized that this show taught me some especially important life lessons. One is that we are all different and that is what makes us unique. Each character on the show had their niche and traits that allowed them to stand out individually. For example, Maddy was always the dorky yet intelligent one while London was the stupid yet witty character.
