Bonj Szczygiel

Bonj Szczygiel began teaching at Penn State in the Department of Landscape Architecture and Department of Continuing Education as a fixed-term instructor. She was hired as an assistant professor of landscape architecture in 1996. Bonj has enjoyed a history of teaching the department’s longest-running general education outreach course, in addition to many of the courses offered to its majors (graduate and undergraduate). Outside departmental responsibilities, she served for 21 years on the University Faculty Senate, and as chair of that institution in 2021–22. Her time with the Senate offered a broader understanding of not only the University Park campus, but the entire campus system and the complex layers of administration responsible for the whole. In all, she feels it’s been a privilege to work with devoted faculty and staff throughout the University who continue to provide exemplary service to our Commonwealth and students.
