Esther Ann Wingfield Benitez
Esther Benitez has been an instructor in the School of Music since January 2013, teaching the popular Gen Ed course, Music 109: The Music of the Beatles, to 8,000+ undergrads. She was employed earlier at Penn State for five years in the Office of Development and Alumni Relations as assistant to both the SVP of development and director of leadership gifts. She previously worked at the Indiana University Foundation before moving here with her husband of more than 42 years, Dr. Vincent P. Benitez, professor of music theory. Formerly a church organist/choral director for more than 20 years, she holds a B.M. in organ performance from Baylor University and an M.M. in organ performance from the University of North Texas. She also did work toward certification in music education at Wartburg College and postgrad study at Arizona State University and taught voice at the college level. A longtime lover of early music, having performed in concert on organ, harpsichord, recorder, crumhorn, viola da gamba, lute, and medieval harp, she is now spending much of her free time learning and practicing Baroque keyboard music on a recently acquired 1977 William Dowd French double harpsichord.
