A feminist Arts-Based Research Methodology: AR portrait Painting in Dialogue

In this dissertation, I focused on developing a feminist arts-based research methodology in which I explore how Augmented Reality (AR) portrait painting is translated and conceptualized from narratives of Iranian immigrant women living in the United States. Through a sensitive, nuanced, and transformative process of translating the voices of subalterns into artwork, the bitterness of their experiences is transformed into inspiring stories of triumph that create a sense of affective solidarity. Multiple subjective perspectives and diverse interpretations in this methodology serve as credibility, authenticity, and truthfulness of the produced knowledge. The interdisciplinary and interpretive approach in AR portrait painting methodology offers a unique opportunity to create feminist, democratic, and affective knowledge through a collaborative, decolonizing, and engaging research process.
