Another Opn’in Another Show; Kiss Me, Kate

Kiss me, Kate is a musical about a group of theatre performers in the 1940s putting on the musical adaptation of Shakespeares, The Taming of the Shrew. The show is truly based off of Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontannes on and off stage conflicts which are represented through Lilli Vanessi who plays Katharine Minola a shrewish women and Fred Graham who plays Petruchio a drunken clown. Throughout my time at Penn state I have been known to do many whimsical designs and for once I wanted to prove that I can create not only whimsical designs but also more serious designs. The 1940s portion of the show is more defined with research as the Italian Renaissance portion is viewed from the 1940s lense which morphs ideas from both periods creating the fanatical costume designs.
