Joshua Mallard

Brink

In 2020, Joshua Mallard composed a work for the new-music ensemble Hypercube. Hypercube is a NYC-based quartet that embraces the boundaries of chamber music, featuring cutting-edge works for saxophone, guitar, piano and percussion, while spanning electric and acoustic worlds.

This work, titled Brink, draws inspiration from 2020. In the process of coping with an onslaught of unfortunate events, individuals often reinvent their lifestyles, beliefs, and habits. In some ways, we must rebuild our belief systems to accommodate for the harshness of the world.

Hypercube has recently uploaded a performance video to their YouTube channel.

Virtual performance presented by: University of Maryland, Baltimore County February 27, 2021 Department of Music 1000 Hilltop Circle, Baltimore, MD

Hypercube: Erin Rogers, tenor saxophone Jay Sorce, electric guitar Andrea Lodge, piano Chris Graham, percussion
