Spamalot

My graduate thesis was to prepare and conduct the School of Theatre production of Spamalot, originally scheduled to perform March 31-April 10. We began the planning of this project in April 2019, when we established the casting and design requirements. Following an extensive week of auditions and callbacks in August, we cast the show and began discussing more intricate design elements. I spent much of the fall annotating the score and designing the orchestra pit layout in collaboration with the rest of the creative team. In January/February, I recorded all of the vocal tracks in the piece to provide the cast with remote tools to practice the material. We began daily rehearsals February 10, during which I was either teaching music, accompanying on piano, or conducting the cast. Leading up to the planned opening, my responsibilities included designing the keyboard programming, pre-recording several sets of vocals, and holding a successful orchestra rehearsal on March 1. Although I’m disappointed that we were unable to bring the show to fruition, I’m proud of all of the work we accomplished as a team and I’m grateful for the rehearsal footage we were able to document in the final days before break.
