Writing for the Web
The World Wide Web is made of linked pages of content from around the world. This exchange of information over the Internet has transformed nearly every social, cultural, and political institution known today. The way we share information and ideas has, in many respects, changed the kind of information and ideas we now create. English 420 will require that you become an active participant in this online world. In many ways, English 420 argues that all writing can appear in the “real world.” English 420 is an upper level university writing course, and you will be expected to maintain the highest standards of scholarly work. However, you will also be expected to engage directly with an online community related to an issue or subject of your choosing. You will tailor your writing to match the expectations of your audience. The content we create will be rigorous and insightful, while also appealling to broad communities on the web. Our goal will be to engage in meaningful conversations online and actively participate in the exchange of information and ideas that the web makes possible.
No previous technical experience is required. You will be learning, among other things, to hand code websites, use Content Management Systems, and host content online. If you are able to write an email and use a web browser, you have all the required expertise for this class.Next Page: Previous Page:
