College is the time where we as students indulge in our freedom and learn the aspects of what it is to be an adult. But at the end of the day we are just students who are overwhelmed and stressed out by the consumption of college work, where we are typically looking for a stress relief and that’s when we partake in social activities that can uplift our spirits even if it’s temporarily.
College parties essentially become a part of the typical college student life whether they chose to partake in it or not. It is something that we see all the time. College years are where individuals particularly experiment with alcohol for the first time. The CDC states that, “most people younger than 21 who drink alcohol report binge drinking, often consuming large amounts. Among high school students who binge drink, 44% consumed eight or more drinks in a row.”Binge drinking is incredibly dangerous, we see how it is depicted in popular Tv shows where though often it doesn’t always ends with a positive outcome.
Now I know what you’re probably thinking, another individual here to lecture you or to judge you if you choose to go out and drink. And the answer is No. At the end of the day we are all human beings and we are entitled from time to time to go out and enjoy ourselves, it frees us from the shackles of our everyday life. But the most important objective is to do it responsibly.
A few weeks ago it was reported that a very own Penn State student died from excessive alcohol consumption. This student had gone out the night before where he attended a party and while at the party consumed too much alcohol during a drinking game. He was found by his roommate earlier in the morning in his apartment.
With reading this is not to scare you in any way. It is just the reality of how dangerous alcohol consumption is and if you’re just drinking recklessly things may turn very extreme and can possibly lead to this.
It is important to take into account our alcohol limit. Knowing when to stop is imperative. Having self control in situations like this is important to establish because, if not, it will continuously drag us down an even dangerous route. Lastly, having a trustworthy individual with you at all times is also important to note. It is not always by supervising you or babysitting you, but having a person that truly cares for you and is watching out for your well being is no problem at all.
Stay Safe!
