Fast & Furious

Hi everyone, I hope you all are great and hopefully you guys were able to enjoy some of the warm weather this week! The weather for the last two weeks has been amazing, its actually reminding me of my summer vacations with being on the beach and soaking up the sun. It has also reminded me of one summer where I binged the whole Fast & Furious franchise. So, sit back and let me tell you about one of the best movies in the franchise.

The Fast & Furious is an exciting roller coaster experience with high explosive action at fast speeds. With complex narratives and cleverly crafted characters, it undoubtedly doesn’t waste time, but that would be to miss the entire point of it.

Anyone interested in racing and high-performance automobiles, as well as those searching for an action-packed escape, should see this movie. The rapid and the Furious is rapid, as the title would imply, and with the fantastic soundtrack blaring out there’s no chance to break midway for more popcorn.

Every moment in the film by director Rob Cohen successfully captures the thrill of adrenaline associated with illegal street racing. This movie is about the sense of competition amongst people on the streets of Los Angeles who are trying to obtain power and respect. But luxury comes at a cost, so Dominic Toretto and his gang use their expertise at lorry hijackings to pay for their way of life (played by Vin Diesel).

As part of his investigation into the gang’s hijackings, undercover cop Brian Spindler (Paul Walker) develops a strong loyalty. However, when he becomes involved with Toretto’s sister Mia (played by Jordana Brewster), his newly found loyalty is put to the test.

The intense nitrous-injected automobiles play an equally important role as the performers and are occasionally even more remarkable, especially when compared to the main role, which was played by an unimpressive Walker, who, to be fair, was probably cast more for his good looks than his acting skills. All of the characters’ communication is kept brief and to the point, which frees up more time for action sequences, some of which rival those in similar movies like gone in 60 Seconds (2000).

And I can’t forget about Dominic Toretto iconic line that has stuck with the franchise for over  the last twenty years. “I live my life a quarter-mile at a time. Nothing else matters; not the mortgage; not the store; not my team and their bullshit. For those 10 seconds or less, I’m free.

The Fast and the Furious (2001) - IMDb

The Fast and the Furious series represents the best of contemporary filmmaking. This is a fact. I can’t think of another series that has achieved such widespread success off the top of my head. It’s successful, has been around for a while, boasts one of Hollywood’s most varied casts, and most importantly, it inspires loyalty. Vin Diesel’s character Dominic Toretto refers to his “family” as his group of friends and racers who inspire him in all he does, but he is also referring to the audience. We are there because we care about the family, not just to watch street racing and automobile chases.

See you guys next week!
