AAUW Penn State World Campus
AAUW Penn State World Campus Chapter, we take an initiative in the virtual world to support women and girls to connect with one another and empower each other to make the workplace and the lives of those around us better.
In Spring 0f 2021, we had about 5 interested members in AAUW World Campus when Lauren Wellar became our President. Lauren’s role of President has continued through Spring 2023. As of Fall 2023, our membership has grown to over 160 members from around the world, and she looks forward to passing the baton to the next Executive Board!
“We are a community of leaders who are working to educate and empower women and girls. Develop leadership skills, take action on issues you care about and connect with other women leaders across the globe. Inspire campus students to create social change. Learn the skills needed to negotiate your salary and help close the gender pay gap. Influence social justice by becoming an activist. Discuss issues related to women in education and the workplace, including Title IX, sexual harassment, and work-life balance. Advancing equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research.”-AAUW National
History of the AAUW
The National AAUW Empowers Women AAUW has been empowering women as individuals and as a community since 1881. For more than 130 years, we have worked together as a national grassroots organization to improve the lives of millions of women and their families. The AAUW Strategic Plan is created through an inclusive process involving the AAUW Board of Directors and staff. The goals, indicators of success, and strategies reflect an integrated approach to fulfilling our mission, vision, and value promise. As AAUW continues to move forward in a changing world, so have our Strategic Plan and our Vision Statement.
National AAUW’s Strategic Plan includes:
Education & Training, Economic Security, and Leadership.
AAUW’s policy work connects and rallies advocates at the local, state, national, and global levels to empower women and girls. With the member-voted Public Policy Priorities as our guide, AAUW uses lobbying and grassroots efforts to push forward policies that break through educational and economic barriers for women. Below we highlight our positions and advocacy on major issues.
