For my civic artifact, I was thinking of analyzing this painting known as “The Scream” drawn by Edvard Munch in 1893. According to this article, Munch tapped into the emotions he felt while in a very dark place mentally while painting this piece. In his depressive state, he felt alienated and abnormal from society, which is strongly represented in this painting. I plan on talking about the pathos involved in this piece and how strong emotions are attributed to this piece.

I was thinking of comparing this piece to Vincent Van Gogh’s famous piece ‘Sorrowing Old Man’ (At Eternity’s Gate). This piece also shows that depressed and isolated feeling.

I have to explore the rhetoric for this pieces a little bit more and figure out how to tie them together.
