Peter Morgan
The Nacho-mess Monster, 2010
low-fire ceramic, 18.5” x 27” x 21”
(Almost) Good Enough to Eat brings together several years of works from Peter Morgan’s ongoing series described as “Food as Landscape.” These pieces frequently transport exotic animals from their natural environment to a manmade “food-scape”. The large-scale ceramic sculptures transform everyday food items into vast landscapes, while conversely shifting massive objects into toy-sized replicas. Through its macro/micro shift, this series morphs the familiar into the grandiose, while bringing into question the viewer’s position within the universe.
Peter Morgan was born in Virginia and received an MFA in Ceramics from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University. He has exhibited throughout the United States and Europe. Notable residencies include the Clay Studio and the Archie Bray Foundation. Morgan was the recipient of the 2012 Evelyn Shapiro Foundation Fellowship and was a National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA) Emerging Artist awardee in 2016.
