NICHOLA KINCH
Gorta Mor, or “The Great Hunger,” a period of mass starvation, disease, and emigration in Ireland between 1845 and 1952, serves as the inspiration for Nichola Kinch’s installation Ag Breathnú Orthu Bás (Watching Them Die).
Through text, gesture, images, and organic matter Kinch’s installation uses social, political, and agricultural research to explore ideas of rhetoric and resilience as opposing forces that unify this historical event with contemporary instances of oppression.
