Where We Find Ourselves is an exhibition that explores the at-times unexpected ways in which queerness intersects with the quotidian and how queer individuals look to see ourselves reflected in the mirror of mainstream culture, often through inference and interpretation. The exhibition includes works in photography, painting, video, digital collage and mixed media, and presents a variety of cultural lenses through which one can see the manner in which queer identity is both formed and affirmed in everyday life and the common ground we all share in finding ourselves.
This exhibition includes work from Adrain Chesser & Steven Miller, Kelli Connell, Zackary Drucker & Amos Mac, Chitra Ganesh, Jamil Hellu, Ryan Wilson Kelly, Brice Peterson, Tuesday Smillie, Chad States, Lorenzo Triburgo and Jonathan Van Dyke.
Jordan Rockford is an independent curator and Senior Lecturer at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. Previous curatorial projects include the first U.S. exhibitions of work by Cambodian artist Vuth Lyno and Israeli photographer David Adika; creative development for Hidden City 2009, a city-wide festival of installation art based in historic sites; and exhibitions for the Delaware Art Museum and the William Way LGBT Community Center. Jordan is a design consultant for the City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program and was a founding member of the Philadelphia-based artist-run project space NAPOLEON.
