Artist Talk by Tali Margolin
Tuesday, January 23rd, 1:35 – 2:50pm
Lubert Commons, Lares Building
Tali Margolin was born in the USSR in 1981. When the USSR ceased to exist in 1991, Ukraine became an independent state. Suddenly, Tali’s address was different without a physical change in location. Margolin was born and spent her childhood in Enakievo, Donetzk region, Eastern Ukraine. Recently, supported by the Kremlin, this region declared independence from Ukraine and is an active war region to this day. In 1998, Margolin moved to Israel and lived in Jerusalem and Tel-Aviv until 2010 when she moved to New York, NY and later to Stamford, CT.
Margolin will visit Penn State Abington as a participating artist in Immigration Now, on view in the Art Gallery from January 16th to March 2nd. During this visit, the artist will give a talk that discusses her work in relation to her personal history living in a changing place and subsequently changing her environment altogether multiple times. In this extremely interesting conversation we will find out how Margolin’s story is told through her mixed media artwork.
