Apple’s 12th Power Hour

iPhone releases have been contentious since the release of the iPhone 7, which did away with the fan-favorite headphone jack for more access to Bluetooth technology; it’s to be expected that this would be a major turn-off for many people with the up-and-coming iPhone 12, but people were able to catch on to other inconveniences with the release. While this doesn’t impact the design of the iPhone 12, it was pointed out that Apple would not include a charging block or pair of earbuds packaged in with the release of the product. To quote The Washington Post reporters Geoffrey A. Fowler, Heather Kelly, and Reed Albergotti, “Will consumers see that move as a win for the environment — or nickel-and-diming by Apple?”

With the current COVID-19 pandemic in effect, the status of market share seems uncertain. However, as many expected, this wouldn’t stop the bigwig of modern marketing, Apple, from finding a way to announce their next big project to the public. And find a way they did. At their annual event just recently, Apple announced the highly anticipated iPhone 12 to the public. As most Apple announcements go, public response to the iPhone 12’s release has been primarily divisive. Not that this is anything new regarding iPhones, but as stated, there are some additional layers to the split.

At the event, Apple’s big selling point for the iPhone 12 was that it is now capable of supporting and running newly invented 5G networks, as opposed to previous iPhones, which had only run 4G networks at maximum ever since 2015. This was a major incentive for many Apple users, as this would allow for loading and downloading processes to be expedited tenfold; this is a common complaint seen with any electronic device, cellular or otherwise. Aspects that also seem enticing to those looking forward to the iPhone 12 include size options for ease of carry, new audio equipment to complement the phone, and additional cameras. All of these details seem like the prime opportunity to cash in, but as per usual, the public was also quick to notice the flaws within the structure. No matter which way the ball rolls in Apple’s favor, it’s guaranteed that the public has a very passionate response.
