The team announced on Monday that they will not host fans at Lincoln Financial Field for the three remaining home games of the season and canceled ticket sales for home games for the rest of the year.
Covid-19 cases are beginning to increase in the Philadelphia area again, with health officials reporting that the region saw the “highest daily increase since the pandemic began,” an increase of 5,500 cases increase on Saturday, November 14th. CBS Philly has reported that restrictions on large gatherings are going into effect once again, which includes Eagles games.
The team was given the go-ahead from the league and health officials in the middle of October to allow fans to be at games at a limited capacity, which was around 7,500. Almost a month later, that number falls back to zero due to the recent spike of Covid-19.
However, NBC Philadelphia reported that the team did not rule out the possibility of fans returning for the final game of the season against Washington. The Eagles themselves released a statement promising “the team will continue to work with the City of Philadelphia and notify fans of any changes in the coming weeks,” but that allowing fans to return “would likely require a dramatic reversal in COVID-19 cases over the next month and a half,” according to Adam Hermann of NBC Philadelphia.
For now, fans will have to watch from the comfort of their own homes and artificial crowd noise will take their place again for the final home games.
