Exactly one week away from Christmas Eve, and The National Weather Service has reported that the Philadelphia region has reported over 6.3 inches of snow. According to The National Weather Service this is the most snow Philadelphia has received since 2018, when 5.7 inches of snow was reported on March 28, 2018.
The snow is just one week and a day too early for the Christmas holiday. Although snowfall on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day is a rare occurrence in Philadelphia, some Philadelphians dream of a white Christmas. It hasn’t snowed in Philadelphia on the Christmas holiday since 2002.
This is also the first snow storm that school-aged children have not been tremendously impacted by school closures or delays, due to the current COVID-19 pandemic that has forced school to rely on alternative remote learning. No “snow days” when you are technically already “snowed in.” Specifically students who are enrolled in schools of The Philadelphia School District have been notified that “there would be no change to class schedules and that all students are expected to log in to their classes at their normal times.”
As for Penn State Abington students, the standard remains. Although it is officially the last day of finals, students are expected to complete all assignments and testing at scheduled times. Clearly the snow has not disrupted anything more than what COVID-19 restrictions already have.
