The first few episodes of the highly anticipated new season of Attack on Titan are finally in our grasp, and the internet (and everywhere else) is buzzing with excitement and spoilers.

This season will be the epic end cap to a truly incredible series. Over nine years in the making, Attack on Titan started in 2013 with its first season, and took the anime world by storm. It quickly grew to be an international phenomenon, growing to be hugely popular the world over. Acclaimed for its amazing visuals and captivating story, the final season of this beloved series will surely be bittersweet for all anime fans.

The story takes place in a dystopian world overrun by giant creatures called titans, mindless monsters who devour humans, and follows a boy named Eren Jaeger who is determined to destroy all of the titans after the death of his mother. However, viewers will realize that everything is not as it seems the longer that they watch, as the show transforms from typical shonen anime to action horror as the series progresses.

Season four focuses on the continuing conflict that is the war between the nations of Eldia and Marley, with new secrets being uncovered that will only blur the line of who the heroes and the villains are even further. The mystery of the titans, as well as the relationship between Eren Jaeger and the founding titan will also be revealed.

I’ve been watching Attack on Titan since it initially came out in 2013, and though I’ve watched many more animes since the first season premiered, it is one that continues to amaze me and draw me in. I was twelve when it first premiered, and I have remained invested in the story even now as a twenty-year-old, because it is truly a show that transcends genre, touching upon themes like the cycle of hatred and how it can affect the human psyche. I especially love Eren Jaeger’s descent into madness as the series progresses, going from naive young boy to ruthless killer in the span of only a few seasons. It has always been an anime I come back to, and exploring the labyrinth mystery that is the show itself will never fail to intrigue me and simultaneously make my head spin. It’s an anime that I recommend to everyone, regardless if they are a seasoned watcher or if they have no idea what the most popular titles are.

You can stream Attack on Titan on Funimation, Crunchyroll, and Hulu so you don’t miss any of the action (and avoid spoilers).

You will not want to miss the epic finale of the anime event of the year!
