Finding affordable clothes and dorm decor can sometimes be a challenge for college students. Shopping doesn’t always have to be an expensive endeavor, however. With the increasing popularity of thrift stores that benefit charities, college students can save money and help people in their community.
If you have never been to a thrift store before and don’t know what to expect, know that you will find a variety of things. Thrift stores often sell gently used items at a discounted price, although some thrift stores have new items. Many times, thrift stores will have a charity that they contribute to, so that your purchase helps people in need in the community.
To make it easy for students to have fun shopping while still having time for classes and activities, I compiled a short list of nearby, non-profit, thrift stores that sell both clothes and decor.
- Second Chances Thrift Shoppe (located at 318 Leedom Street in Jenkintown) – Benefits victims of domestic violence
- Holy Redeemer Thrift Store (located at 473 East County Line Road in Warminster) – Benefits housing for homeless families and a disability program for adults
- Penny Buck Junction (located at 555 West Street Road in Warminster) – Benefits people recovering from addiction and alcoholism
These are just some of the non-profit thrift stores near campus, and there are many more you can visit to shop at affordable prices for good causes. Happy shopping!
