Abington’s Annual Spring Health Fair (2022)

Hand Sanitizing Presentation

Cristian Rodriguez

If you couldn’t tell by the loud smoothie bike in Lares, the annual Spring Health Fair was back on campus on March 23rd. Funded by the Donna Caddick Endowment,  and hosted by Lifesavers and Red Cross, presenters helped educate students on a variety of health topics.

How to quit smoking and vaping display boardPresentations covered drug use, asthma, cigarettes, blood pressure and exercising, sugar intake, skin cancer, hand washing,  and AED/CPR. Each presentation gave students inciteful information about the topics and how they should handle each one.

Presenters made sure to have their presentations geared towards the typical age range for students as well. For skin cancer, it was noted that Melanoma is the leading cause of death from skin cancers in late teens and young adults. Sunscreen packs were then given out so that students could stay protected from the sun.

Some presenters sought to engage students through interaction too. The Glo Germ, for example, showed students the amount of germs they had on their hands (it’s a lot.) There were also gift bags and hangouts at each station for students to take as well.

The smoothie bike also gave a healthy and fun alternative for lunch. With a table full of fruits, yogurt, and milk, students picked out what they wanted in their smoothie and biked away to make it.

Students who are interested in helping with the next Spring Health Fair could join Lifesavers on their Engage page.
