Penn State Abington Students Welcomed into New Honors Society

The NSLS

Adrienne Coope

A chapter of The National Society of Leadership and Success was founded at Penn State Abington in Fall 2021 this honor society.

Rawan Zalzala, the student president of the NSLS program says, “it’s an honor, I get to facilitate various events and answer the questions that the students have about the program.”

Recently, this Spring semester there was an email in my inbox for an invitation to be apart of this new organization NSLS. Then a little while later I received paper mail from the same organization. I was shocked, honored and definitely satisfied to be invited, as I’ve worked so hard to achieve academic success at Penn State. Being invited to such an organization was a goal I didn’t realize I had.

My invitation included a deadline date for accepting  and a code. Upon accepting, there is a one-time fee, after which I was an official member.

Then NSLS describes itself on its website as “an organization that provides a life-changing leadership program that helps students achieve personal growth, career success, and empowers them to have a positive impact in their communities.” The National Society of Leadership and Success is the largest collegiate  leadership honor society in the United State with more than 700 chapters and over a million members nationwide, according to the invitation I was sent. The invitation also noted that “For this Honor Society membership is available to limited number of students. Earning this honor is by demonstrating academic accomplishment and leadership potential.”

The program begins with a New Member Orientation, which was held this year on  March 3. This was is the first step  for induction. Then a video and answer questions about specific topics. Next, is the  Leadership Training Day (LTD). This is the same you watch a video and answer questions. Then you must tune into three broadcasts. These broadcast are just watching videos of your choosing but you must watch thirty minutes. These videos are talks with celebrities that give students motivation. One I chose was with Terry Crews (Strength Comes From Within).

Finally, I met my Success Networking Team (SNTs). The SNTs are what the organization says is the “most important;” here is where you are placed in a group. The goal is for all group members to get help to achieve their goals. I was the facilitator of my SNT group and the leader. I kept us going in the right direction to achieving our goals. I made sure all group members kept contact and turned in our required documents.

Each group  member gets a responsibility of there choosing the facilitator, the activity coordinator, the time keeper and communication coordinator in order that the group runs smoothly.

As Rawan put it, “My favorite part of what I do is seeing the personal progress that each member goes through.”
