Thursday, April 20th,  a poetry reading event was held in the lower floor of the library from 12:10pm to 1:10pm.

Professor Thomas Heise, who led the event, stated “April is National Poetry month and this event is a chance to celebrate and promote poetry. Each year we have a theme for the reading to try to bring it all together. For 2023, it is poems of love, loss, and longing. Some students will read their own poems and other will read work from a selection of poems by famous poets–Marge Piercy, Ocean Vuong, Rita Dove, W.S. Merwin–that address the theme in one way or another.”

Heise also stated that there will be diverse majors presenting poems, not just English majors. There will 10 participants overall, including two original poems of mine.

Poetry allows us to have a better insight to the world around us, to connect more with ourselves and with others, and to understand more about emotions. Anyone is invited to this event this Thursday and free to show their enthusiasm for the poems which will be read.
