National Day on Writing: Abington Writes!

Emily Chan

Abington Writes! Will be held on the first floor of the Penn State Abington library on Friday October 20th from 12:15-1:15 p.m.

Students who have been nominated by an English faculty member will be reading their pieces at the event and will receive a certificate for their writing and participation. All writing is encouraged for reading and nomination, as the topic is not constrained to any specific genre.

Other students who want to support their fellow peers or to just hang out may join and listen to nominated students read their writing. Pizza will be provided at the event for students who come to celebrate.

In 2009, the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) established the National Day on Writing. Observed annually on October 20th, the National Day on Writing is a celebration of writing as “an essential component of literacy” as stated on the NCTE’s website.  To join in the NCTE’s message and annual celebration, the Abington Division of Arts and Humanities, as well as the English Program, and the Abington Review sponsor an annual event on campus to celebrate.
