College can be stressful and overwhelming and can cut our time for anything sociable or fun. It can be difficult to find anything worth your limited free time to do around Abington. Located 27 minutes (with traffic) from Center City Philadelphia–where there are plenty of activities if you want to make the drive–Abington has its fair share of fun, too.
Bowlero
One of them being Bowlero in Feasterville, which is about 20 minutes northeast from Penn State Abington. Bowlero is an incredibly fun place that features late night bowling, laser tag, pool, and an arcade. They have good food, beverages, and adult beverages as well. There’s a really nice setting when you walk in, it feels like a fun zone. For those over twenty-one, the bar they have is also quite nice with a vast selection of drinks to choose including margaritas, beer, frozen drinks, or soft drinks.
TopGolf
Another fun option for leisure time would be Topgolf, Topgolf is an enhanced driving range that’s bright, fun, and full of good vibes. Topgolf is located about 20 minutes from campus as well, right on Roosevelt Boulevard. Like Bowlero, they have their own menu of food, regular drinks, and adult beverages. A personal favorite would be the mac and cheese bites and a Shirley Temple, can’t beat it!
Willow Grove Mall
If you want to spend the day shopping, getting some good food, The Willow Grove Mall is a great destination for you, since it is only a five-minute drive. Tilted 10 is brand new in the Willow Grove Park mall, providing an incredibly fun and unique experience. Located on the third floor of the mall, it provides dining and craft cocktails with a gourmet style Taco and Margarita bar. They have entertainment with 12 bowling lanes, laser tag, and 2 18-hole neon light mini-golf courses, along with a multitude of fun arcade games. It’s a place for 21st birthdays, first dates, and even family fun. Once you’re done at Tilted 10, you can then walk out into the mall and enjoy some Auntie Ann’s pretzels.
Painting with a Twist
With a Regal Movie just 15 minutes up the road in Warrington, and Painting with a Twist in Jenkintown, possibilities are endless. Painting with a Twist is a fun way to get creative while also having a good time enjoying an adult beverage. You get to sit and paint with your friends and sip glasses of wine.
E. Connor, instructor at Painting with a Twist and Penn State sophomore says that working there “is honestly the best job I’ve ever had. Even as the instructor I still have a blast with the groups that come in; it’s almost like I’m hanging with them for a night out, too. It’s such a great environment not only for adults but for teens and kids, and it’s an awesome chance to get something you’re never done before.”
It may not be the essence and glam of center city, or the buzz of the nightlife, but Abington and its surrounding areas definitely bring fun to the table. The Septa bus line (Line 55) runs all the way up to Doylestown which is a little bit further than the Regal Movie theatre. Ubers and Lyft are also not as expensive considering each destination is mostly within a 20-minute radius from Penn State Abington. With the stress of college there should always be room for leisure with a fun or cool activity to do, Abington and the surrounding areas supple that fruitfully.
These attraction sights also have specials and promotions all the time. Tilted 10 is doing a discounted ticket Christmas promotion this coming holiday season, and also half priced pizzas every Sunday for football games. Bowlero does specials every weekend when it comes to purchasing games of bowling, such as buying two games on one lane and getting the third game half priced. When it comes to the movie theaters and Regal, just put a box of milk duds and a bag of chips in your jacket and enjoy the movie!
