If you are majoring in any of the following you must secure an internship to graduate. The majors are listed below:

  • Business
  • Corporate Communication
  • Computer Science
  • Criminal Justice
  • Information Technology and Science
  • Cybersecurity
  • Engineering
  • Psychology and Social Sciences
  • Elementary and early childhood education

But what exactly are the steps once you secure an internship?

  1. Submit a template letter to your employer so they can fill out the template on a business letterhead. Your supervisor must also physically sign the letter. Once the letter has been completed please submit this letter on the Google form sheet when you begin the internship application. You can find the template and the Google form sheet on the Career and Professionals website. To get to the sample letter click on your major and you will be provided with a copy to send out to your supervisor. https://www.abington.psu.edu/campus-life/careers/students-alumni/internship-application-process
  2. Fill out the internship application form. If you belong to a major that requires an internship, you must remember the internship deadlines. If you are starting an internship in the Spring you must apply by December 1, 2023. If you plan on beginning an internship in the summer you must apply by April 12, 2024. Head over to Career and Professional Development’s website and you will find the form here or click on this link: https://www.abington.psu.edu/campus-life/careers/students-alumni/internship-application-process
  3. Upload your completed letter. Once you fill out the application form you can submit your completed letter within the application form.

The approval process comes after you fill out the application form and submit your letter. Career and Professional Development (CPD) will verify all the details of your internship and will then move your application forward. Once your internship has been approved, details will be sent to your faculty advisor if your internship is required. For those doing an exploratory internship, you will be assigned an advisor.

If you have additional questions, please schedule an appointment with CPD or visit their website for more information. If you need assistance on where to find an internship, you can use sites such as LinkedIn or Indeed. You can also use the 24/7 Career Tools on CPD’s website to find internships, but you can also use these tools to prepare for interviews or career exploration with your major.
