As the end of the semester approaches, Penn State Abington hosts the Internship and Career Fair. This year, dozens of employers hosted stations of information with hopes of recruiting Penn State Abington students into the workforce.
The Career Fair took place on Wednesday, October 30th in Penn State Abington’s athletic building; guests learned about many opportunities for employment, internships, networking, and even received free professional headshots (courtesy of the sponsor, “New York Life”).
This year’s notable sponsors included:
- Abington Police Department
- City of Philadelphia Office of Human Resources
- Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
- Enterprise Mobility
- Fox Chase Cancer Center
- JBT
- PA Army National Guard
- Penn Medicine
- Plymouth Rock Assurance
- Substitute Teacher Service, Inc.
- TB Philly Inc.
- United States – Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP)
While students and alumni alike are free, and encouraged, to attend, there is a strict dress code of “business professional attire.” This style of clothing includes suits, dress pants and shirts, formal dresses, jackets, and dress shoes.
Students were advised to avoid:
- Hoodies
- Sweatpants
- Nonformal headwear (baseball hats, beanies, etc)
- Graphic tee shirts
- Shorts
- Nonformal footwear (sneakers, slides, sandals, etc)
- Hair bonnets
But what if I don’t have any dress clothes?
If you’re worried about finding dress clothes, or your suit is in the dry cleaner, Penn State has you covered. Penn State Abington’s Career and Professional Development department, located in the Lares building, has a “Career Closet,” where free articles of formal wear can be chosen for the Career Fair.
The Career Closet is available in Lares 206, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The Career Closet accepts donations from staff, students, community members, and alumni. If interested in donating to the Career Closet, please email the Career and Professional Development department at careers-ab@psu.edu or call (215) 881-7529.
