The tables in Lubert Commons were decked out with pink and red tablecloths, and a bunch of cards to write in. To the right, a table with a variety of unstuffed animals were laid out for students to stuff and dress with little t-shirts. On your left, a photo booth.
If anyone enrolled on our campus passed Lubert Commons on the 11th of February between roughly 1:30 and 4:30 pm, you would have seen a myriad of Valentine’s Day decorations, for Abington Campus Entertainment (ACE)’s Valentine’s Day Social. At the very least, you were offered a condom and saw the table of various sweets, like cookies and cake. When you walked into the room, you were showered with small paper hearts.
During the event, the president of ACE went around to each table and asked how everyone was enjoying the event, a fantastic show of how considerate ACE is of its event attendees. Devmika, one of the students on ACE’s executive board, sat down to speak to the Abington Sun.
“What was getting the idea for this event like?”
“We wanted to do a winter social with more generally winter-related things, but it fell through. We then decided on a valentine’s day social with all of these different activities, like stuffed animals, writing cards, and a photo booth.”
“How did you guys get a photo booth in here?”
“Bollywood night had one, so we reached out to see how to get one ourselves. They really pulled through for us on that.”
“Has the turnout been what you expected?”
“Oh yeah, it is way better than expected. It has only been 30 minutes and we’re almost packed in here.”
“What would you tell an Abington student looking to get involved with ACE?”
“If you ever want to help run these events, we always need volunteers. The more people that come, the better quality event we get.”
