Contested Bodies? Egyptian Mummies in the 21st Century Museum with Dr. Angela Stienne

Dr. Angela Stienne will discuss ethical considerations surrounding the exhibition of Egyption mummies in 21st century. Her background is as a museologist and a cultural historian, and she is interested in cultures of collecting human remains, with a particular focus on Egyptian mummies. Dr. Stienne is particularly interested in engagements with Egyptian human remains in the eighteenth and early nineteenth century, medical collections of mummified bodies, the notion of encounters with human remains in museums and the history of race studies of Egyptian Mummies. These are topics she will expand upon throughout this presentation.. . . . This event is being funded through Abington Arts Initiative, supported by the Schreyer Institute for Teaching Excellence.
