Course Information

Interested in a career in publishing (academic or trade) or document/WEB design? Want to put your Business, Communications, English, IST, or Psychology major to “practical” use while still in college, or to prepare for Graduate/Professional School? Are you considering majoring in English or Communications, or in the Humanities or the Arts (either here or at another campus)? Consider enrolling in ENGL 209 and/or ENGL 417:

ENGL 209 – Journal or Magazine Practicum, is a practicum course focusing on publishing original writing—fiction and nonfiction—and visual art created by students, staff, faculty, and alums of PSUGA and other Penn State campuses. Students may register for 1-6 credit hours, depending on the level of commitment and responsibility you want.

ENGL 417 – The Editorial Processes, focuses on the nuts and bolts of academic editing, using The Chicago Manual of Style (16th ed.) “Counts” towards the English major & students successful in this course will be candidates for editorial positions with PRESENCE & senior editorial positions with ABSENCE.

The purpose of these courses and the PSUGA Press is yearly publication of two Peer-Reviewed journals: (1.) the campus review of literature and the arts,  ABSENCE, and (2.) PRESENCE: The Annual Review of Undergraduate Research in Social Justice & Human Rights.
