Through the PLA I have grown tremendously as a leader. The biggest thing that I have learned is that it is ok to fail. Leaders are molded through their failures and being able to persevere and not give up is a great quality of a leader. Most people will not remember that you have failed, but they will remember how you reacted to it. You do not have to be the best at everything to be a good leader. Sometimes leadership is about knowing your limitations and being able to do what is best for your group.

The PLA has allowed me to meet and learn from some amazing and inspiring students. It encouraged me to be the best I could be and to continue seeking out my dreams, just as my classmates were. The PLA showed me that everyone can be a leader in their own way, and that everyone has the power to impact people and make a difference.

I am someone who likes to lead by example. I have found that I do not need to be in the lime light to be a leader, as I may have thought freshman year. I believe you can be a leader by demonstrating to others what they should be doing, and by showing your values and morals through your action. I am not the most vocal leader, but I can be confrontational when I need to be. As I have grown as leader I have gotten better at this, being honest, open and confrontational in order to handle tough situations.

As part of a sports team, I believe I am a positive leader and someone that likes to be encouraging and uplifting. I value honesty and communication, and I believe leaders should treat everyone with respect if you want them to respect you. I think it is extremely important to show people compassion, and as a leader this is something I always make sure I am doing. People don’t care what you have to say until they know you are.

As a leader, I take it upon myself to do what is best for everyone, and not just what is best for me. I have learned over my college experiences how important it is to never give up and how impactful you can be just by working hard and showing others your passions.
