It’s the time of the year that everyone looks forward to! And no, it isn’t Christmas. I am a big music person, therefore, Spotify Wrapped is my national holiday. I love seeing the diversity in music genres that I have listened to over the year and how it has changed. Over the years, I went from listening to Broadway musicals like Hamilton and Dear Evan Hansen, to finding out about the beauty of RnB, and even discovering that I enjoy Rap.

Surprisingly enough, Rap turned out to be my number one genre today. Not a total shock, considering that one of my favorite artists ever is Tyler the Creator. However, he surprisingly wasn’t my number one artist this year. In a twist of events, my favorite rapper was overtaken by a Tri-State indie band that I discovered about a year ago: Phoneboy. Phoneboy was something I discovered by chance, as Spotify included a feature where they would give you a playlist where they would recommend songs you would like based on what you listen to. Many of their songs have really meaningful lyrics to me and I am so happy I discovered an artist like them, as I feel it expanded my music genres even more. I also got labelled as “The Time Traveler” by Spotify, meaning I replay the same songs over and over again. I have been called out for that by my sister as bad thing. I just think that means I am developing personal and meaningful connections to my songs! Finally, Low by SZA turned out to be my number one song. Not sure how to feel about that since I definitely felt more attached to other songs like Ghost in the Machine by SZA or even We Will be Falling in Love by Victoria Monet. However, I can’t complain.

Hope you all enjoyed your yearly Spotify Wrapped!
