The day of the White Out game started like any other weekend, my roommate and I were out, enjoying some time together before heading to work at 6 PM. But when we got to the store, the door was locked, and People we didn’t recognize were inside, closing up. After knocking on the door to try to figure out who was closing before we arrived, we were introduced to the store’s owners for the first time.
They told us the store was closing for the day or maybe for a few days because business hadn’t been good enough. From what they first said, I thought it was just temporary, but as the week went on, it became clear we weren’t getting a schedule anymore, and every time I passed by the store, more and more things were getting taken out of the back of the store and put in the front. My initial reaction was one of confusion mixed with frustration. Suddenly, I had to face the hassle of looking for a new job, a process I hadn’t planned for, and have to get on with immediately.
Despite all that, I know I’ll miss the people I worked with and the job itself. It gave me the flexibility to get homework done during slower times, and it was meaningful because I shared the experience with my roommate. This situation has reminded me that anything can change in an instant, and while that’s stressful, it’s also an opportunity to explore something new. Whatever job comes next, I’m ready for the new experience, I suppose.
