Sunday scaries. A weird phenomenon that I only heard of when coming to college but it’s a universal experience. The rush of the weekend is over and the reality of how much work you pushed off is finally hitting you. Personally, this was horrible while taking organic chem lab and having a whole case report to bang out in a day. This year is hopefully a little different. My Sundays are now action packed in the afternoon with frat exec, chapter, and club vb practice lasting from 6-11 pm. This has weirdly become a blessing and a cause. I cannot afford to have Sunday scaries and let my morning slip away. Another benefit that I didn’t recognize that is that I only have two classes on Mondays so this can be some of my most productive time at my desk hammering out administrative work and assignments that I missed.

This summer I really enjoyed Sundays. Sunday was the day that me and the other interns would explore the city doing tourist stuff. Traditionally, families will go to the beach on Sundays in the summertime so they would be packed to the brim. Instead, we went to plant nurseries, saw botanical gardens, went to baseball games. Having two pure days off work was nice for wellbeing. We got our Miami crazy partying out Friday night, Saturday, and Saturday night, then looked at plants as we headed to lab Monday morning. It did help that what I was doing in the lab was interesting and something I looked forward to.

An essential to my Sunday routine is getting some cooking in. There is nothing better for the soul than going from start to finish making a meal you enjoy. If you can, find a way to cook for and eat with someone else. It always tastes better when you share a meal. Cooking eggs has become a staple in my life living with 32 roommates and one pan and burner. They’re fast, included in my meal plan, and give that sustaining feeling that cereal could never give. She is just not that kind of girl. I would also recommend some oatmeal with fruits and different kinds of sugar. Oatmeal is so flexible and interesting if you have the pantry space to store it.

Next up is a playlist to have going on in the background of your day. We’re students in the tech generation, most of us need something on to calm the monkey brain that is pinging around distracted. Also, could just have ADD like the doctor said but I don’t listen to that. I would HIGHLY recommend lofi to anyone who has done music in the past. As someone who did musical theater and choir for my childhood and highschool, I sing along to everything with words. That’s where lofi is different. No words and just beats keeps me going and focused. Head bobbin, fingers flying across the keyboard, suddenly Sunday isn’t so bad.

What has also changed about this semester is that I now enjoy most all my coursework, I am becoming a real trained biologist. Next blog will probably be a little more technical as I explain my research (ahhh!!!) but for now, just not so scary Sundays.
