When teaching and learning online, having meaningful class conversations can become more challenging – particularly when students are asked to share their ideas, opinions, or disagreements. Research has shown that this is especially true for students of marginalized groups. During this hands-on workshop, we will work through how to foster a brave space for students to engage in meaningful dialogue.

Dr. Virginia L. Byrne researches climate and equity in online and technology-enhanced

Louisa Nkrumah, M.Ed., is the Learning Experience Designer at the University of Maryland’s Teaching and Learning Transformation Center. Prior to joining the TLTC, 
Louisa was an instructional designer at Penn State University working with both the World Campus and Harrisburg campus. Louisa holds an M.Ed. in Training and Development, both from Penn State Harrisburg. She is a Quality Matters course reviewer and completed the Online Learning Consortium’s Instructional Designer Certification.
