Kristina Ishmael (Senior Project Manager @Teaching, Learning and Tech Program at New America)
Kristina IshmaelKristina supports states, districts, and educators in rethinking the role of instructional materials to create deeper learning opportunities for students. Ishmael is passionate about changing teaching and learning to provide more equitable access and opportunities to all learners.
Before joining New America, Ishmael was the K–12 Open Education fellow at the Office of Educational Technology, where she developed and grew the #GoOpen movement. Prior to her work at the U.S. Department of Education, she worked as the digital learning specialist for the Nebraska Department of Education, where she led professional learning and advocated for school librarians. This experience showed her how to leverage educational technology in urban, suburban, and rural school systems. Before her role with the state, Ishmael taught high-risk elementary ELL students in NE.
Rebecca Heiser (Lead Instructional Designer and Applied Research Coordinator Rebecca Heiser@Pennsylvania State University- World Campus)
Rebecca is the lead instructional designer for The Pennsylvania State University’s Lifelong Learning and Adult Education online graduate program with World Campus. She also serves as the applied research coordinator for World Campus Learning Design, overseeing special projects. Heiser is pursuing a doctorate in distance education from Athabasca University, with research interests at the intersection of globalization, equity, and learning analytics in distance education. She has presented and published on topics like open educational resources (OER), social presence in online learning environments, active learning strategies for optimal learning in distance education, identity-centered design, and cross-cultural learning design. Heiser is part of the Learning Analytics cohort with the Oregon State University Ecampus Research Unit, which is conducting a study on the Perceptions of Learning Data in Higher Education.
Jennifer Payne (Educational Technology Coordinator @Cherry Creek Elevation)
Jennifer PayneJennifer has been a passionate public educator for over 20 years. She spent the first 14 years of her career as a high school English and ESL teacher. After receiving an MA in educational technology, Payne moved into the role of campus technology specialist, working with teachers to integrate technology into their lessons. Since 2015, Payne has worked in two blended/online schools in the Denver, CO area as a professional learning specialist and most recently as the educational technology coordinator for Cherry Creek Elevation, where she works with teachers on course design, curriculum development, and quality assurance, and provides instructional coaching and professional development.
