My Life is Awkward.

Have you ever had one of those moments where you want to curl up into a ball and die of embarrassment? Welcome to my life. I can easily describe myself in one word: awkward. From astounding encounters to zits on picture day, I’ve seen it all. There are some things that are so incredibly unbelievable that just happen to me. I’m not socially inept, I just have horrible luck and even worse timing.

So I’m walking down College Avenue on my first Friday night at Penn State when I see my friend Kara walking with a group of people. The following conversation ensues:

“Heyyyyyyyyyyyy!”
“Oh hey what’s up?”
“We just came back from a frat. Literally there was nothing there it was so boring.
But hey, I LOOK HOT!”

Suddenly, a guy shouts at me, “Yeah you do!”.
Now please, PLEASE keep in mind that I am completely sober during this entire interaction. But hear me out. There’s 44,000 people at Penn State. There was no way that I was ever going to see this guy again. The chances were one in 44,000 LITERALLY. So of course, I open up my big mouth and retort, “The name’s Adelina Richards, REMEMBER IT”.

I know, I know. I’m stupid. It was stupid. I was NOT supposed to see him ever again. But lo and behold the VERY NEXT DAY some guy comes up to me and exclaims, “YOU’RE Adelina!”. Of course, it was the very guy from the previous night. And all I feel is:

Ok, here’s where we get serious. Although it was incredibly embarrassing and I couldn’t look at this kid straight for days, this super awkward encounter gained me a friend. Sometimes we need to step out of our comfort zones and do something completely stupid and random in order to move forward and adapt to a new environment.
When we look back on our meeting, we laugh and laugh. Our society focuses so much on being perfect, thinking over everything before we say it, and ensuring that we are always politically correct. Somehow, in trying to protect the feelings of others, we have lost our own ability to truly express ourselves and branch out in new ways we never before felt possible. So this week I encourage you, do something completely stupid and awkward, you never know what life has in store for you.

Also, here’s a stunning picture that captures exactly how hot I looked that night. Can’t really    blame me for having so much confidence after seeing this baby.
