Credit programs for Adult Learners at Penn State Berks
Traditionally, most college-aged students seeking a first degree leave high school and head to a four-year institution and graduate in four to five years…traditionally.
Not anymore. Students referred to as “non-traditional students” – adult learners over the age of 24, who skipped the four-year degree track following high school to serve in the military, get married, travel, or just work for a living – are now more traditional than recent high school graduates.
According to the U.S. Department of Education, only 29% of college undergraduates are “traditional” students. What about the rest? Well, approximately 33% of college undergraduates start their degrees after the age of 25, and approximately 25% of college students begin after the age of 30. Most students, regardless of age, juggle other responsibilities, including work and parenting. While these are challenges, today’s adult students can make it work – achieving a degree, or advanced degree, and balancing work and family responsibilities.
Penn State Berks offers such support and assistance to non-traditional students. Penn State Berks helps adult students by offering on-line, evening, and weekend classes in various degree programs, including Bachelor’s degrees in business, engineering, and information sciences and technology. Advanced degrees are available for college graduates to fit work and family life, as well. The AACSB-accredited Master of Business Administration program is offered at Penn State Berks. Penn State Berks also offers its adult learners a Bachelor of Science degree program in Organizational Leadership for those adults in any industry looking for promotion to leadership and management positions in their current career path.
Whether you are seeking a first degree, completing a degree started before life got in the way, or seeking an advanced degree in your current profession, or a new career, Penn State Berks offers the flexibility, scholarship opportunities, and variety of programs and courses, to any adult learner.
The Penn State Berks evening study program is specifically designed for working adults who want to complete a degree on a part-time basis without career interruption, or an accelerated degree program in business to finish a partially completed four-year degree, or an associate’s degree.
There has never been a time where the need, and desire, for continuing education for adults has been greater than now. A changing, fast-paced economy requires adults of all ages to stay focused on improving, honing, or learning new skills to stay ahead in a current career or to start a completely new career.
An information session about Penn State Berks’ adult credit programs is scheduled for July 10 at 6 pm at the Penn State Berks campus.
