Not all course offerings at Penn State Berks are for a bachelor’s degree or master’s degree. Lifelong learning doesn’t just earn a diploma at the end and it shouldn’t have to. Many of Penn State Berks’ adult learners seek further training in their current career to keep up with new technologies, or for advancement to a supervisory role, or even a new position within the same industry.
The Introduction to Revit course is a perfect example of a non-credit course used to help designers and contractors learn about computer aided technology to design commercial and residential structures. Revit is a computer program developed by Autodesk for architects and engineers, as well as contractors and designers, to design commercial and residential exteriors and interiors. Revit allows designers and contractors to manipulate and “build” everything from whole buildings to light fixtures.
The Introduction to Revit course at Penn State Berks is just the beginning. Students will learn how to manipulate the drawing and editing tools within Revit, set up levels, columns and column grids, draw and modify walls, add doors, windows, and even curtains, as well as create floors, and create work schedules for individual projects.
Many adult students in the Penn State Berks Revit course use the training to get back into construction and design after layoffs – gaining advanced knowledge for the constantly changing industry. The evening classes allow students to attend classes while working in the field too.
One local student from the Introduction to Revit course last year said she used the class for “resume building” for current and future positions in the contracting world. “I will always have this skill on my list of qualifications for my future,” she said. “Revit is such a widely-used program in the architectural and design world and I am appreciative to have had the opportunity to take this course in my hometown.”
Penn State Berks offers several other non-credit programs for adult students looking to improve their skills, or resume build, in industrial electricity, computer aided design, automation design, professional engineering exam reviews, project management, construction management and human resource management. These non-credit certificate programs will help adult learners keep up with industry trends, improve technical skills, and give them the leg up in the managerial leadership race.
The Introduction to Revit course is only being offered this summer. The course is offered Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm starting May 8, 2017. The course costs $825 for the seven-week session.
