The Academic and Enrollment Support Services (AESS) team is comprised of Transfer Credit Specialists, the Coordinator for Prior Learning Assessment, and academic support resource specialists. The team’s goal is to provide support to students from the time they have accepted their offer of admission until the time of enrollment. AESS works collaboratively with all World Campus student-facing units and plays a key role in students’ successful transition to Penn State World Campus.
The next steps after accepting the offer of admission include a number of activities that are outlined on the New Student Checklist, including activating the access account. The AESS team is responsible for delivering New Student Orientation and encourages students to take the SmarterMeasure Online Learning Readiness Assessment. Specialists in both orientation and early intervention resources support students in these activities. In addition, AESS insures that students are given access to the ALEKS Math Placement test.
New World Campus students frequently bring with them transfer credits from other schools. Transfer Credit Specialists collaborate with the academic colleges to move transfer courses out of electives and into degree requirements. This process allows us to utilize as many credits as possible toward degree completion, potentially reducing the time to graduation and financial commitment for the students.
Along with transfer credits, students often bring work and life experience with them to World Campus. The AESS Prior Learning Assessment Coordinator works directly with students and academic partners to evaluate these experiences for possible use as academic credit.
The Academic Support Services team address barriers to student success from early intervention, such as SmarterMeasure Readiness Assessment, to course support like Math Essentials and tutoring. AESS specialists work closely with academic advisers to identify and address any student concerns relating to their academic success.
