Plants are amazing!

Trees, shrubs and herbs comprise this western PA forest plant community, beautiful on a sunny, fall day.
While plants might not be as cuddly or conspicuous as some critters, the more you learn about them, the more you will hopefully agree that they are exciting.

Plants have intricate systems to convert the sun’s energy into fuel that powers nearly all life on Earth. Plants interact with each other to communicate about stressors and share resources. Plants rely on animals to help them reproduce and disperse. Plants manage to survive or reestablish after a multitude of severe disturbances.

Within the Plant Ecology Lab at Penn State Beaver, we mostly explore how forest plant communities operate but opportunities for new avenues exist.
