Seeing the evolution of mental illness and how it’s perceived sounds really interesting. I know it has changed drastically throughout history and I don’t know how far back you’ll go but comparing trepanning to therapy today seems almost comical. A topic you could discuss is men’s mental health v.s. women’s in terms of how society views them as this has been a recent topic of debate.
I think this will be a really good talk and paper. As someone who has anxiety, therapy and medication is so important to me. I think you’ll be able to find very good resources for this. I like that you are including the practice of getting lobotomies, I remember hearing about them on TikTok and I was literally shocked. I think one subtopic you could explore is the idea of men and mental health, and how there’s a severe disconnection between the two.
