A Complete Travel Guide: Tybee Island, Georgia

Take a trip with me down south to Tybee Island, Georgia! It is home to some of the most beautiful beaches, and visitors can also get the best of both worlds with the nearby city of Savannah.

Things to Do

Visit the Tybee Island Light Station and Museum

The island itself is extremely small with not a ton of things to do. My friends and I visited Tybee Island the week after Christmas, which meant a lot of the shops and attractions were closed for the season. One thing that we did do was the Light Station and Museum that sits in the heart of the island. It was a super fun thing for us to do considering the temperatures were not beach worthy this time of year.

Visit the City of Savannah

Savannah, Georgia is about a 30 minute drive from the island. We spent a few of our days driving into the city, but it was amazing being able to resort back to a quiet island for nighttime. Perfect, right? There are countless things to do in Savannah like shopping, eating, and exploring. We had an amazing time doing the following things:

  1. Take a Trolley Tour of the City. This was such a fun and informative trolley tour of the entire city. The tour guides showed us all around the city, and they even pointed out and explained all of the historic sites. Who doesn’t love a bus tour?
  2. Eat at The Olde Pink House. This restaurant offers traditional Southern cuisine in a beautiful colonial mansion. They offer live music, and the experience is totally worth it. Check out the menu and book your reservation!
  3. Go shopping on Rousakis Riverfront Plaza. This plaza sits all along the river, and shoppers are able to watch the boats pass by as they max out their credit cards. It is a really cool atmosphere with so many great shopping options.

Places to Stay

My friends and I would totally recommend booking an Airbnb or VRBO for your trip to Tybee Island. The island is not very touristy (at least compared to other beach towns), so there are many more affordable and accommodating house options as opposed to hotels. It was totally worth it for us to find a nice house along the beach to stay in.

I hope you consider visiting the adorable island of Tybee Island in Georgia, and I especially hope you take a trip over to the fun city of Savannah during your time down south. Refer to this post for recommendations and ideas during your stay!

Thank you!

  1. I liked this one because this is a more niche area than some of the other posts you’ve done. how did you and your friends find this place as a spot to vacation at? The town being close to Savannah also makes it really appealing because as you said there isn’t a lot to do in the town so having a big outlet of things to do seems perfect.

  2. I am so jealous of you, you’ve been everywhere and after reading your posts I plan an imaginary trip in my head that I went wherever you suggested. Tybee Island sounds like a dream, The only place South I’ve been is Florida, so for my next imaginary trip Tybee Island is definitely next!

  3. As a total history nerd, I would love to go to the Tybee museum, and the trolley tour of Savannah sounds literally so cool. I have loved trolley tours ever since I went on one in Boston, and I would love to go on another one! I also really appreciate colonial architecture, so the Olde Pink House would also be on the top of my bucket list if I ever make it down south. The Riverfront Plaza also sounds super neat!

  4. Savannah looks so beautiful. Ngl tho going down south scares me a bit. I’ve only ever driven through Savannah but I remember it looking really cute.
